Design Engineer

Up to 45k

Whitstable (Hybrid 2 days, 37.5 hour week)

My client is a global industry leading electrical solutions manufacturer supplying in to the Automotive, Aerospace, Defence and Medical Devices markets. They operate in over 40 countries however they retain the family feel within the Whitstable site. Having been trading for almost 100 years they are very well established and have created a great culture within the business that allows employees to flourish whilst being coached, developed and mentored to reach their potentials, hence they boast a very high employee retention rate.The position has come about to due to growth and a busy order book which is ever growing. The role is working on a hybrid model once probation is passed with Mondays and Fridays from home.

The role of Design Engineer:-

  • Designs, verifies, prepares and maintains detailed technical design drawings, schematics or specifications using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (currently Creo) and Microsoft software packages (Excel, Word etc) ready for manufacture.

  • Able to manage, prioritise and progress multiple projects to NPI plan,

  • Prepares Manufacturing & Process Instructions as required for new products.

  • Resolves manufacturing issues in the early stages of product design and development.

  • Work closely with design briefs to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare drawings of complex, or original designs which require a high degree of precision using CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment.

  • Coordinates drawing and drawing control activities.

  • Good understanding of current and new emerging manufacturing methods.

    Ideally the Design Engineer will:-

    Qualifications

    • Minimum BEng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Scientific subject

    Experience

    • Minimum 3 years Design Engineering experienc preferably in Automotive or Aerospace manufacturing industry

    • Experienced using CREO or similar 3D CAD and product lifecycle management software

    • Experience of design for manufacture and design for assembly

    • NPI Gate review process/ Production readiness

    Technical Knowledge

    • Mechanical bias knowledge with some electrical familiarity

    • Good understanding of GD&T and creation of detail and manufacturing drawings to BS8888 or similar

    • Understanding of risk assessments and DFMEA, DFM/A (design for manufacture and assembly)
