Validation Engineer – Mechanical Surrey, UK Up to £55,000 + bonus + benefits

Note: Physical / mechanical product test and validation experience is required.

This role would suit a creative test engineer / validation engineer that is able to develop test methods and procedures from product requirements, execute the tests, and gather and interpret test data as part of a product validation and verification process.

Role:

Working as part of a test and validation engineering team, the Product Validation Engineer role will support the development and testing of innovative electric motor systems for the automotive electric vehicle market.

It is a “hands-on” role that involves developing mechanical product validation and test processes and procedures. Also, building and setting up test equipment, executing physical / mechanical tests, collating and analysing data and producing test reports.

This in turn aids to support the ongoing development and improvement of the electric motor / powertrain products as well as test and validation processes.

Experience / knowledge required:

  • Ideally a degree or similar in a relevant engineering or scientific subject (e.g. mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, physics etc)

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant industry experience as a test engineer, validation engineer or development engineer working on similar electromechanical products (e.g. electric motors, automotive powertrain / engines, transmissions / gearboxes, etc)

  • Proven experience of physical / mechanical test of products (environmental test, reliability testing, durability, accelerated life, destructive test, performance, water ingress, NVH – noise, vibration, harshness)

  • Experience of creating and developing test processes and procedures from product requirements

  • Able to collate, analyse and interpret test and validation data

  • Experience of working with customers and producing test / validation reports

  • Experience of using tools such as Labview, LabWindows, Python and / or Matlab.

  • Able to plan and manage test projects and plan to ensure efficient test and development cycles

    Others (useful experience):

  • Ability to supervise or mentor test technicians would be great

  • Experience with working with external test houses and certification bodies

  • Able to support the build, test and problem solving of test-rigs

  • Able to travel occasionally to customer sites or other company facilities (1-2 times per year)

The ideal candidate would be an experience test engineer, development engineer or validation engineer that has worked specifically on electric motors (ideally for electric powertrain / electrified propulsion applications). Automotive industry experience would be great but other highly regulated industry experience would be considered (e.g. aerospace, medical devices, rail or perhaps industrial control / traction systems.)

This product test / validation engineer role is commutable from Guildford, Farnham, Aldershot, Southampton, Winchester, Basingstoke, Farnborough, London, Portsmouth and Petersfield.

The company can offer relocation and visa support for the right person

Where to Advertise Medical Technology Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Advertising medical technology jobs in the UK requires a different approach to most technical hiring. The medtech candidate pool spans biomedical engineers, regulatory affairs specialists, clinical scientists, software engineers working within IEC 62304 and MDR frameworks, imaging scientists and commercial professionals with deep healthcare sector knowledge. General job boards consistently conflate medical technology with broader healthcare, pharmaceutical and IT roles — producing high application volumes but low candidate quality for specialist medtech positions. This guide, published by MedicalTechnologyJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise medical technology roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

How Many Medical Technology Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Medical Technology Job?

If you’re pursuing a career in medical technology, it can feel like the toolkit is endlessly long: imaging systems, data analysis software, regulatory platforms, testing frameworks, prototyping tools, CAD, quality management systems, signal processing libraries and more. Scroll job boards or LinkedIn, and it’s easy to think you need to know every tool under the sun just to secure an interview. Here’s the honest truth most hiring managers won’t explicitly tell you: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every tool — they hire you because you understand the underlying principles and can apply the right tool in the right context to solve real problems. Tools matter — absolutely — but they are secondary to problem-solving ability, clinical awareness, engineering rigour and the ability to deliver safe, reliable solutions. So how many medical technology tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the answer is far fewer than you think. This article explains what employers really want, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to focus your learning so you look confident, competent and end-game ready.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Medical Technology Job Applications (UK Guide)

Medical technology (MedTech) is one of the most dynamic and high-impact sectors in the UK — spanning medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, AI-assisted systems, wearables, imaging, robotics and clinical software. At the same time, hiring managers are exceptionally selective because MedTech roles demand technical excellence, regulated safety awareness, clinical context and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Whether you’re applying for roles in R&D, engineering, quality & regulatory, clinical validation, product management or software development for medical systems, hiring managers don’t read every word of your CV. They scan it quickly — often deciding within the first 10–20 seconds whether to continue reading. This guide breaks down exactly what hiring managers look for first in medical technology applications — and how you can make your CV, portfolio and cover letter stand out in the UK market.
