Flexible working arrangements Work life balance

Location:University of Warwick Campus, Coventry

Salary:£47,389 to £56,535 per annum (Assistant Professor) / £58,225 to £67,468 per annum (Associate Professor)

About the Role

Informal Queries

  • For informal queries about the role, please contact Professor Mike Chappell, Professor and Research Cluster Leader for Biomedical & Biotechnology, at .

Flexible Working

  • We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time.

Diversity Statement

  • We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities, and in particular those currently underrepresented in the Engineering sector.
  • The University aims to promote work life balance for all employees and the School of Engineering will consider a range of possible flexible working arrangements in order to recruit the best candidate.

We invite applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in the field of Biomedical Engineering. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in Biomechanics, and/or Medical Device Design, Design of Prosthetics and Orthotics. The post is on the Research and Teaching Pathway.

The successful applicant is expected to pursue research that makes fundamental contributions to their field, while also addressing real-world challenges with practical relevance – potentially working across disciplines and with a broad range of funders including industry. Applicants should demonstrate how their work complements existing strengths within the School, or brings new and strategically aligned research directions.

Consideration will also be given to alignment with the University’s Research Technology Platforms and established research infrastructure. We are especially interested in candidates whose work can leverage or contribute to the School’s collaborative, translational, and industrially engaged research environment.

Candidates will be expected to teach to the highest quality on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the School of Engineering.

About You

You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline. For an Assistant Professor appointment, you must be able to demonstrate the capability to establish an independent research activity, which has the ambition and potential to become internationally leading.

If appointed as an Assistant Professor, you will be appointed for a probationary period (usually five years) during which you will be given a reduced teaching and administration load to enable you to establish your research group. Successful completion of probation will coincide with promotion to a permanent Associate Professor position.

For an Associate Professor appointment, you will have already established a high-quality independent research activity and have been awarded substantial research funding from external sources, while having experience in successful delivery of teaching activities.

At either level, you will initiate, develop and deliver high quality research, publish top-tier journal papers and demonstrate the potential for impact from your research. You will also engage with higher education pedagogy and be willing to develop novel teaching methods, embracing changes in teaching technology and expectations.

Where to Advertise Medical Technology Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise medical technology jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and MDR/IEC 62304-aware channels that reach biomedical and medtech talent. The medtech candidate pool spans biomedical engineers, regulatory affairs specialists, clinical scientists, software engineers working within IEC 62304 and MDR frameworks, imaging scientists and commercial professionals with deep healthcare sector knowledge. General job boards consistently conflate medical technology with broader healthcare, pharmaceutical and IT roles — producing high application volumes but low candidate quality for specialist medtech positions. This guide, published by MedicalTechnologyJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise medical technology roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
