Then get in touch! Kingston Barnes is recruiting for a Technical Author for our client in the Avonmout, Bristol area. Our client is an innovator at the forefront of micro-structuring solutions for industries from medical devices and electric vehicles to quantum computing.

The Role:

As a Technical Author, you’ll play a pivotal part in delivering high-quality technical documentation essential to the operation and maintenance of complex equipment. Your work will directly support customers in cutting-edge industries by providing clear, precise, and user-focused content. Responsibilities:

  • Publish bespoke customer manuals using tools like Framemaker and MadCap Flare.

  • Develop new, clear, and concise documentation tailored to user needs.

  • Validate technical details by collaborating closely with engineers and technicians, including hands-on testing in the lab.

  • Review and edit documentation and visuals, including CAD drawings and images.

  • Respond to technical queries in partnership with engineering and management teams.

  • Maintain rigorous document version control and adhere to internal procedures.

  • Uphold health, safety, and environmental standards in all work activities.

    About You:

  • Excellent writing skills with technical curiosity and strong collaboration.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Technical Author.

  • Qualified in technical authoring (ISTC, NVQ, Diploma) or equivalent experience.

  • Proficient in authoring software such as MadCap Flare, Framemaker, or Adobe Acrobat.

  • Experience writing procedures for operating and maintaining technical products.

  • Strong technical comprehension and the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, user-friendly content.

  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Good time management and commitment to meeting deadlines.

  • Familiarity with CAD software.

  • Experience using Simplified Technical English.

  • Knowledge of document control processes like branching, versioning, and review cycles.

    Benefits:

  • Permanent hybrid role based in Severn Beach, Bristol.

  • Monday to Friday, Days with Hybrid Working
