NIGHTS - 37.5 per week working Monday – Friday 22.00 – 06.00

Band 4 - £17.64 per hour

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Oxford Road Campus (MRI Complex) on Oxford Road, Manchester. We are looking for a Sterile Services Technician to join our friendly team. The Sterile Services department is at the heart of the Hospital; this critical service is responsible for the decontamination of medical devices for surgery and patient care. This is not a patient facing role but is very much patient focused and the patient is at the core of everything the department does.

Your duties will include:

  • Perform a thorough damp dust of work areas prior to commencement of work

  • Accepting used surgical instruments into the department ready to be reprocessed.

  • Correctly loading the washer-disinfector and autoclave to ensure effective decontamination of the entire load.

  • Ensuring a full inspection of the load is carried out prior to packaging the instruments for sterilization.

  • Packaging instruments, when applicable, in accordance with Hospital policy.

  • Recording and reporting any failed runs to the Theatre Manager.

  • Reporting any problems/anticipated problems to the Theatre Manager as soon as possible.

  • Inspecting all sterile packages for integrity once the load has cooled sufficiently and returning any compromised packages to be re-packaged and re-autoclaved.

  • Returning decontaminated goods back to respective departments as soon as possible.

  • Ensuring all items passed through a decontamination process have a traceability label attached/available.

  • Ensuring all relevant paperwork within the department is completed.

  • Undertaking daily checks of all machinery and keeping records of the checks.

  • Ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained within the department.

  • Accepting and processing equipment from outside agencies

    Skills required:

  • Previous sterile services experience with a minimum of 6 months.

  • Rigorous training will be given.

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written, and basic computer literacy.

  • Attention to detail and an overarching desire to deliver a high-quality service.

  • A basic standard of general education with proven literacy and numeracy.

  • Be physically active and able to work long hours on your feet.
