Hi I'm Michelle, Senior Pharmacist Manager and we are looking for a passionate and dynamic pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Clinical Trials team, as Lead Pharmacist in the Clinical Trials Pharmacy department.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Trials Pharmacist (Band 8a) to lead and support the pharmacy aspects of clinical trials across all divisions. This pivotal role combines advanced clinical trial pharmacy expertise with strategic and operational leadership, contributing directly to the success of Trust and Oxford University-led research.

As a Clinical Trials Pharmacist you will be responsible for reviewing in‑house documentation, overseeing investigational medicinal product (IMP) supply and storage, and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and MHRA standards. You will also play a key role in managing pharmacy operations within trials, including line management of staff, delegation of authority and coordination of multidisciplinary resources. This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist with strong decision‑making, organisational and communication skills to integrate leadership and project management into clinical practice. The role offers hands‑on experience in aseptic preparation of IMPs within our clinical trials aseptic unit and ATMP Unit, supporting the delivery of high‑quality, innovative treatments.

The main responsibilities of this role are:

  • Provide support to the Head of Clinical Trials to deliver an efficient pharmacy‐based clinical trials service and promote the Trust as a centre of excellence for research and development.
  • Work with the Clinical Trials team to strategically plan and manage the workload for trials that are aseptically prepared by the partnership organisation.
  • Plan and manage the workload for all clinical trials across all four sites in collaboration with the Head of Clinical Trials.
  • Offer specialised advice to researchers on investigational medicinal products (IMPs) and associated products during protocol development and provide information on Clinical Trial Authorisation (CTA) applications.
  • Deputise for the Head of Clinical Trials as appropriate.
  • Ensure the safe and effective management and use of IMPs on all sites within the Trust and its research partners, in accordance with relevant regulations (including ICH/GCP, EU Directive 2001/20/EC, FDA, GMP).
  • Be an active member of the pharmacy department and specialist area/Directorate team, ensuring a continuous two‑way exchange of information to maintain high standards of medicine use within the Trust.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country, providing a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and serving as a base for medical education, training and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals – the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence, focusing on compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence.

Medical Technology Jobs for Career Switchers in Their 30s, 40s & 50s (UK Reality Check)

Thinking about switching into medical technology (medtech) in your 30s, 40s or 50s? You’re exploring an exciting and meaningful field. Medtech companies in the UK design, develop and support devices, software and systems that improve patient care, diagnostics, treatment and healthcare outcomes. From imaging systems to wearable tech, from digital health platforms to surgical instruments — medtech is a rich ecosystem with many career pathways. But the field is often seen as exclusive to engineers or scientists with decades of specialised training. That myth can put off experienced professionals with valuable transferable skills. This article cuts through the hype and gives you a practical, UK-focused reality check on roles that exist, the skills employers actually want, how to retrain realistically, whether age really matters and how to position your experience for success.

How to Write a Medical Technology Job Ad That Attracts the Right People

Medical technology sits at the intersection of healthcare, engineering, regulation and innovation. From diagnostics and imaging to digital health, robotics, wearables and regulated medical devices, medical technology roles require a rare combination of technical skill, regulatory awareness and patient-centred thinking. Yet many employers struggle to attract the right candidates. Medical technology job adverts often generate either too few applications or the wrong type of applicants — candidates who are technically strong but unfamiliar with regulated environments, or healthcare professionals without the required engineering or product experience. In most cases, the problem is not a shortage of talent — it is the clarity and quality of the job advert. Medical technology professionals are detail-oriented, risk-aware and selective. A vague or generic job ad signals poor regulatory understanding and weak product maturity. A clear, well-written one signals credibility, safety and long-term intent. This guide explains how to write a medical technology job ad that attracts the right people, improves applicant quality and positions your organisation as a serious medtech employer.

You will learn: measurement uncertainty & stats for testing probability & risk thinking for hazard analysis basic modelling & curve fitting (the workhorse skill) signal basics for sensors & wearables linear algebra essentials for imaging & ML enabled devices optimisation thinking for thresholds, trade offs & performance You will also get a 6 week plan, portfolio projects & a resources section.
