Scientific Programme Administrator, Clinical Genomics

Salary: £32,442.84

Location: Salford, Greater Manchester

Hybrid working: 3 days in the new Salford office, 2 days from home

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

MFK Recruitment has recruited six people into this organisation over the past three and a half years, and all six are still there. That speaks volumes about the culture, leadership, stability and quality of the working environment.

A scientific administration role with purpose, variety and stability:

This is not a standard administration role.

The Scientific Programme Administrator will play an important support role within international genomics quality assurance. You will help support the delivery of External Quality Assessment schemes that enable diagnostic laboratories across the world to produce accurate, reliable and clinically appropriate genetic test results.

The organisation’s work supports clinical governance nationally and internationally, helping reduce the risk of patient harm and raising standards in diagnostic genomics.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a science background who enjoys a varied role combining laboratory support, scientific administration, data handling, quality processes and teamwork.

Why this organisation?

We have worked closely with this organisation for several years and have seen first-hand how well they support, develop and retain their people.

The organisation offers a supportive culture, excellent benefits, flexible working, meaningful work and a strong sense of shared purpose.

The successful Scientific Programme Administrator will work on a hybrid basis, spending three days per week in the new Salford office and two days working from home.

The opportunity

As Scientific Programme Administrator, you will support the delivery of specialist External Quality Assessment schemes in clinical genomics.

You will work closely with Scientific Programme Managers, Principal Scientific Programme Managers, laboratory colleagues, operational teams and external stakeholders. You will be involved in scientific administration, sample preparation, laboratory support, quality management activity, data handling, reporting support and logistics.

The role will suit someone who wants to build their career in a scientific, quality-driven environment while contributing to work with genuine international impact.

Key responsibilities

You will be involved in:

• Supporting the delivery of high-quality ISO 17043 accredited genomics-based EQA services

• Assisting with the preparation and manufacture of EQA samples

• Booking samples into tracking databases and updating laboratory records

• Aliquoting, labelling and packing samples ready for shipment

• Supporting nucleic acid extraction, quantification, PCR and qPCR activity after appropriate training

• Supporting stock control, laboratory consumables, reagents and housekeeping activities

• Assisting with validation of laboratory equipment

• Helping prepare website content and systems for the assessment of results

• Assisting with scientific reports, including statistics, graphs, tables and formatting

• Supporting SOP writing, software testing and data gathering for scientific publications

• Supporting ISO 17043 accreditation and quality management activity, including audits, supplier records and documentation

About you

You are likely to come from a background in biological sciences, biomedical science, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, laboratory support or a closely related scientific environment.

For this Scientific Programme Administrator position, you will need:

• HNC, HND, diploma or equivalent experience in a scientific subject

• Basic laboratory skills, including pipetting

• An interest in molecular biology, genetics, genomics or diagnostic testing

• Good computer literacy and keyboard skills

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail

• The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, collaborators and customers

• The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider scientific team

• A flexible, proactive and self-motivated approach

• The ability to work accurately and remain organised under pressure

Experience in molecular biology techniques, previous research experience or NHS laboratory experience would be beneficial. An honours degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genomic Sciences or a related subject would also be advantageous.

What is on offer?

• Salary of £32,442.84

• Hybrid working: 3 days in the new Salford office, 2 days from home

• Excellent benefits package, including a generous NHS-matched pension scheme

• 37.5-hour working week

• A highly stable, supportive working culture

• Meaningful scientific work with international reach

• The chance to support quality standards in clinical genomics

• A role where your contribution will be genuinely valued

This Scientific Programme Administrator role is an excellent opportunity to combine scientific administration, laboratory support and international impact within a flexible, supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Where to Advertise Medical Technology Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise medical technology jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and MDR/IEC 62304-aware channels that reach biomedical and medtech talent. The medtech candidate pool spans biomedical engineers, regulatory affairs specialists, clinical scientists, software engineers working within IEC 62304 and MDR frameworks, imaging scientists and commercial professionals with deep healthcare sector knowledge. General job boards consistently conflate medical technology with broader healthcare, pharmaceutical and IT roles — producing high application volumes but low candidate quality for specialist medtech positions. This guide, published by MedicalTechnologyJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise medical technology roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
