Location: West Cambridge

A position exists for a Research Assistant to help on projects aiming at the clinical translation of bioelectronic devices. The work involves supporting the establishment of neuronal/astrocyte/mixed cell cultures and their integration with bioelectronic devices.

The purpose of this role is to support and maintain the University's national and international mission for excellence in teaching and research.

Contribution to excellence in research will be as a member of the IBI, carrying out research under the direction of the Directors to include data collection, analysis and some interpretation. The role holder will participate in the overall contribution of the department, as appropriate.

Duties include undertaking independent research and assisting with ongoing research, developing experiments and writing up results for publication. The successful candidate may also be asked to assist in organising seminars, in addition to presenting work to colleagues at group meetings.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are:

Research and scholarship

  • Support translational projects by preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of experiments with in vitro cell cultures and their integration with bioelectronic devices.
  • Aid in maintaining the cell culture lab, preparing buffers, assays and keeping the lab in order.
  • Support/train researchers in cell culture.
  • Write up research for presentation and publication.
  • Continually update knowledge and understanding in the field.
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research.
  • Manage own research activities (with guidance if required).
  • Present work to colleagues at seminars and group meetings.
  • Assist in organising seminars and group meetings.

Teaching and learning support

  • May assist in the supervision of student projects.
  • May assist in the development of student research skills.
  • May plan and deliver seminars relating to research area.

Planning and organising

  • Plan own day-to-day research activity within the framework of the agreed programme.
  • Co-ordinate own work with that of others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort.
  • Contribute to the planning of research projects and ensuring the lab is well stocked in consumables.
  • Plan the use of research resources, seminars and meetings, as appropriate

Liaison and networking

  • Liaise with colleagues and students.
  • Liaise with external collaborators and other group members.
  • Build internal and external contacts and participate in networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration.

Research Assistant: GBP 33,002 - GBP 35,608

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months or until 31 August 2027, whichever comes soonest.
