Job Summary

The Haematology and TYA services at The Christie are seeking to appoint a senior/junior Haematology Clinical Trials Research Fellow. The position involves working alongside the research team and existing roles within the Palatine treatment centre, a purpose‑built facility opened in 2014. The Christie has been responsible for numerous world‑firsts in cancer treatment and has a long history of research, education and clinical innovation. The stem‑cell transplant programme was established in 1982 and currently performs 120‑160 transplants per year. In 2018, The Christie was selected as one of the first UK centres for CAR‑T therapy delivery.


Main Duties

The role offers an exciting opportunity to increase clinical research experience including the delivery of innovative early‑phase research in compliance with Good Clinical Practice & Trust policy. The post holder, with consultant oversight and alongside the research team, will be responsible for:



  • Seeing new referrals and follow‑ups, managing patients throughout all aspects of their trial experience;
  • Gaining experience in clinical management of intensively treated Haematology Oncology patients, including CAR‑T cell therapy and stem‑cell transplantation;
  • Participating in Phase I trials of small‑molecule inhibitors, combination/multi‑modality Phase I trials, and trials of CAR‑T and bispecific antibodies;
  • Attending Safety Review Committee meetings (usually remotely) and liaising with Principal Investigators and external stakeholders such as CROs and pharmaceutical sponsors;
  • Undertaking administrative duties associated with patient care and contributing to the development and planning of new studies;
  • Maintaining continuing professional development, presenting research, writing papers and reviews, and undergoing annual appraisal;
  • Contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical governance and audit;
  • Providing inpatient and day‑unit clinical cover, supervising patients on the new inpatient unit and ambulatory care unit, and participating in outpatient clinics focused on trial patients.

Contract & Working Pattern

Contract: Fixed term, 6 months; Working pattern: Full‑time; Salary: £52,656 to £73,992 per annum pro‑rata; Grade: Doctor - other; Date posted: 04 November 2025; Reference number: 413‑MD‑C2025‑24662‑OO; Job location: Manchester, M20 4BX.


Qualifications

  • Essential: MRCP or equivalent; Primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent); GMC registration;
  • Desirable: FRCPath or equivalent; Good Clinical Practice; Higher degree.

Training & Experience

  • Essential: Experience in managing acutely unwell patients undergoing chemotherapy; Experience managing Haematology inpatients; Interest and documented experience in Clinical Audit;
  • Desirable: ALS certificate; Evidence of clinical leadership skills; Conference presentations.
