About our client

They are a fast-growing healthcare company focused on delivering innovative healthcare solutions across the NHS and wider healthcare systems. As they scale their operations and portfolio, financial leadership is critical to supporting sound decision-making, sustainable growth, and investor readiness.

Role Overview

Seeking a proactive, self-starter who is resourceful and detail-oriented. As the Financial Controller you will oversee all financial activities of the business. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and reporting excellence - as well as supporting the strategic direction of the company.

You will lead on day-to-day financial operations, internal controls, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, commercially aware, and comfortable working in a dynamic, growing environment with cross-functional teams.

This is not your typical Financial Controller role. You’ll be stepping into a hands-on, high-impact position, where you'll build on and own the finance function from the ground up. With few legacy systems or rigid processes holding you back, this is your chance to implement best practices - from internal controls to management reporting and budgeting.

You'll work directly with the leadership team, contributing to strategic decision-making, and you'll play a key role in shaping the company’s growth journey. If you’re a self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and wants to put your stamp on a business, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all core finance operations including accounts payable/receivable, month-end close, bank reconciliations, and payroll.

  • Own the production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including commentary and variance analysis.

  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow planning.

  • Ensure compliance with HMRC, Companies House, VAT, and other statutory obligations.

  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors as needed.

  • Implement and maintain internal controls and processes in line with best practices and company policies.

  • Partner with leadership on commercial and strategic initiatives, providing financial modelling and business case support.

  • Monitor KPIs, product margins, stock and pricing to help drive profitability.

  • Support funding discussions, investor reporting, and due diligence as required.

  • Implement and optimise financial systems and reporting tools (e.g. Sage, Xero, or equivalents).

    Required Experience & Skills

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).

  • Minimum 3–4 years post-qualification experience in a financial controller or senior finance role.

  • Prior experience working in a healthcare/medical devices environment preferred.

  • Strong financial controls mindset, with experience implementing processes from beginning to end

  • Strong working knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax regulations.

  • High proficiency in Excel and accounting software (Sage preferred).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial modelling skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with non-finance stakeholders.

  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    Desirable Attributes

  • Experience supporting Board-level decision making.

  • Exposure to investor relations or fundraising processes.

  • Experience setting up or improving finance systems and controls.

  • Previous work with inventory or stock-based businesses.

  • A genuine interest in healthcare, innovation and making an impact

Pre-Employment Checks for Medical Technology Jobs: DBS, References & Right-to-Work and more Explained

Pre-employment screening in medical technology reflects the discipline's unique position at the intersection of healthcare innovation, regulatory compliance, and patient safety management. Medical technology professionals often have privileged access to sensitive patient data, proprietary medical devices, and clinical systems that form the foundation of healthcare delivery and patient care outcomes across the NHS and private healthcare sectors. The medical technology industry operates within stringent regulatory frameworks spanning MHRA device regulations, GDPR healthcare provisions, and emerging digital health governance requirements. Medical technology specialists must demonstrate not only technical competence in healthcare systems and medical device development but also deep understanding of clinical safety protocols, patient data protection, and the ethical implications of healthcare technology deployment at scale. Modern medical technology roles frequently involve developing diagnostic systems, patient monitoring devices, healthcare AI applications, and clinical information systems across multiple regulatory jurisdictions and clinical safety frameworks simultaneously. The combination of technical expertise, patient safety responsibility, and regulatory compliance requirements makes thorough candidate verification essential for maintaining clinical governance, patient safety, and public trust in healthcare technology systems.
