Design Assurance Engineer, Defence Sector
Copello are recruiting for a Design Assurance Engineer to join a defence client on a contract basis. This opportunity offers a hybrid working model (2/3 days onsite per week) and is outside IR35.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all design activities meet regulatory, customer, and internal quality standards. The position is pivotal in managing design integrity, certification readiness, and configuration control across the product lifecycle.

Role Overview
Working closely with design, manufacturing, and compliance teams, the Design Assurance Engineer will be responsible for integrating design assurance into the delivery of complex engineering projects. The role includes oversight of non-conformance processes, certification efforts, and configuration management activities.

Key Responsibilities

Configuration & Version Control

  • Manage part and assembly version rollovers to avoid compatibility issues and maintain traceability.

  • Maintain configuration baselines and ensure consistency with BOM and supporting design documentation.

    Certification & Compliance

  • Support CE product certification, including compiling technical files and performing conformity assessments.

  • Assess and document certification status for both COTS and internally manufactured parts.

  • Produce declarations of compliance in accordance with internal procedures and external regulations.

    Documentation & Evidence Management

  • Maintain and modernise the Bill of Materials (BOM), ensuring alignment across suppliers and internal systems.

    Quality & Non-Conformance Management

  • Identify and control non-conforming outputs in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Manage segregation, correction, and concession processes; verify effectiveness of corrective actions.

    Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal departments (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical) and external suppliers to ensure design assurance requirements are met.

  • Participate in design reviews, audits, and certification meetings.

    Candidate Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline.

  • Experience within a regulated industry such as Defence, Aerospace, or Medical Devices.

  • Strong knowledge of CE marking, ISO 9001, and product safety directives.

  • Proficient in configuration management tools and PLM systems.

  • Must hold active SC clearance or be eligible to obtain SC.

  • Able to work on-site 2/3 days per week as part of a hybrid working arrangement
