We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Trials Administrator to join and support research within the Paediatric Team covering the Ear, Nose & Throat portfolio within Research and Innovation (R&I) across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). The post holder will be integral for driving research in the Paediatric Research Team. Our team works on existing and upcoming studies across various specialties, coordinating a vast portfolio of studies across Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the paediatric Ear, Nose & Throat portfolio which includes trust-sponsored studies requiring multisite management. The post holder will be expected to assist with all aspects of administration in relation to our research studies. Our studies are important and we work to tight deadlines with an essential focus on attention to detail.


The specialties this post will focus on will be Ear, Nose and Throat, Speech & Language Therapy and Audiology, with a flexible approach to supporting the other specialties.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and dynamic individual who has excellent communications skills, a team-orientated approach and the ability to plan and undertake work in an accurate, methodical and efficient manner. It is important to have a good eye for detail and strong administrative and IT skills. An understanding of the clinical trial process, our specialties, and research governance would be advantageous but training will be provided where needed.


You will support our dynamic research team and get involved in many aspects of our research studies. You will actively contribute to the performance and delivery of the team by ensuring you provide administrative support in a proactive, timely and efficient manner. You will help us to maintain our status as one of the leading Trusts in the UK and have the chance to work with a team with extensive research experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Support and coordinate the paediatric Ear, Nose & Throat portfolio across Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
  • Assist with all aspects of administration for research studies, including data entry, reporting, and documentation.
  • Maintain study databases and spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy and timely updates.
  • Ensure compliance with research governance, regulations and ethical standards.
  • Provide proactive, timely administrative support to the research team and contribute to team performance.
  • Support the team with interdepartmental collaboration across Speech & Language Therapy and Audiology.

Person Specification
Education

  • GCSE/O Level Maths and English
  • Degree in a science or health related discipline or a degree in another field with experience in clinical trials.
  • ECDL

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and other packages
  • Use of email and internet.
  • Extensive experience of databases and spreadsheets including inputting, analysis and report writing.
  • Experience of office administration.
  • An understanding of the research processes in the NHS including research governance and regulations relating to research practice
  • Previous work in NHS

Skills and Aptitude

  • Advanced keyboard skills/touch typing
  • Good organisational abilities, with a methodical approach and the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and experience of interdisciplinary working.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Use of initiative and ability to work unsupervised.
  • Professional and courteous manner.
  • Tenacity and a proactive approach to work.
