Overview

Senior Pharmacy Clinical Trials Technician. NHS AfC: Band 6. Permanent, full-time position in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital site. Hours: 37.5 per week (8:45–17:00, Monday to Friday, with a 45-minute lunch break).

Department: LUH - 1 General Staffing (AFC posts). Job reference: 287-DTC-11-25-A. Salary: £38,682–£46,580 per annum. Closing date: 10/11/2025 23:59.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital site within the pharmacy trials team.
  • Provide and develop a comprehensive pharmacy clinical trials service to staff and patients of the trust and associated organisations.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the pharmacy clinical trials service at the Royal site.
  • Train and develop other staff in clinical trials.
  • Co-operate in the provision of a comprehensive, safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical service to the trust.
  • Involve in set up and management of upcoming studies.
  • Maintain trial drugs, dispensing and labelling of clinical trial drugs, recording drug accountability and investigating discrepancies; monitor temperatures in storage areas.
  • Engage with external trial sponsors, monitor visits and discuss trial conduct at site.
  • As Senior Technician, involved in claiming finance for pharmacy activity and line management of staff.
  • Full training in in-house procedures and policies will be provided.
  • Weekend and late rotas in the main dispensary may be required.
Qualifications and experience

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent relevant discipline
  • Registration with the relevant body
  • Demonstrable post-qualification experience with a period at a senior level
  • Experience in training pharmacy staff
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical aspects of organising and running clinical trials
  • Delivery of pharmacy technical services in a broad range of departmental specialist areas

  • Good presentational skills
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
Requirements

You must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC and have experience of working in Clinical Trials. You must be an accredited accuracy checker.
