Location: Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity – meetings primarily virtual, with occasional in‑person sessions at our London office.


Overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is dedicated to providing seriously ill children with the best possible chance and childhood. In 2023 we launched a New Research Strategy to transform the lives of children with rare or complex conditions. The strategy includes a National Paediatric Cancer Clinical Trial Fund and a Research Patient Insight Panel of Lived Experience Experts (LEEs) who help ensure research funding delivers maximum impact.


Responsibilities

  • Meet up to five times a year for 1‑3 hour sessions, scheduled in advance.
  • Review grant applications using lived‑experience insights and score them based on criteria.
  • Contribute to panel discussions, sharing perspectives with scientific panels.
  • Commit to a three‑year term, renewable for a second three‑year term.
  • Attend meetings virtually; travel to London offices is required only occasionally and fully reimbursed.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old at application.
  • UK‑resident.
  • Reliable device (laptop, tablet or phone) and internet connection.
  • Previos lived experience of paediatric cancer or participation in paediatric clinical trials (first‑hand patient, survivor, parent, carer or close friend).
  • Strong interest in research, especially paediatric cancer/clinical trials.
  • Clear, confident communication in group settings.
  • Willingness and flexibility to commit throughout the role duration.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience engaging with a charity.
  • Confidence in written communication.

What We Do Not Require

  • A medical, scientific or healthcare background.
  • Prior knowledge of GOSH Charity or its work.

Remuneration

An optional payment is offered as a token of appreciation and compensation for expert advice and guidance. Rates:



  • £12.50 for tasks < 30 minutes.
  • £25 for up to 2 hours.
  • £50 for up to 4 hours.
  • £100 for a full 8‑hour day.

Tax and National Insurance

Payments are not source‑taxed by GOSH Charity. If your total income (including these fees) exceeds the personal allowance, you must notify HMRC. The Charity cannot give individual tax advice.
