Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. DePuy Synthes is recruiting for an Export Control Analyst, located in Leeds, UK

Job Overview

The Export Control Analyst supports DePuy Synthes’ global trade compliance activities by helping ensure products, technologies, and data are exported in compliance with applicable export control laws and regulations. This role plays a key part in protecting the business, enabling compliant international trade, and supporting global supply chain and commercial operations. The position is well suited for an early‑career professional seeking to build expertise in export controls within a regulated, global medical technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day‑to‑day export control operations, including screening, classification, and transaction reviews to ensure compliance with applicable export control regulations.

  • Assist with the classification of products, components, software, and technical data under relevant export control regimes (e.g., UK, EU, U.S.).

  • Review export documentation and commercial transactions to identify potential export control risks and escalate issues as appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support audits, internal reviews, and regulatory inquiries.

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of export control policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Partner with Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, and Commercial teams to provide export control guidance and support business needs.

  • Monitor regulatory updates and assist with impact assessments related to changes in export control regulations.

  • Contribute to training, awareness, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Trade Compliance function.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Law, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Coursework or concentration in international trade compliance, logistics, or regulatory affairs preferred.

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Typically 2-4 years of relevant work experience in export controls, trade compliance, supply chain, or a related regulatory or analytical role.

  • Foundational knowledge of export control concepts and regulatory frameworks.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and comfort working with data and documentation systems.

Preferred:

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to follow defined processes and apply policies consistently.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience supporting export control or trade compliance activities in a global or regulated environment.

  • Familiarity with UK, EU, and/or U.S. export control regulations.

  • Experience working cross‑functionally with supply chain, logistics, or engineering teams.

  • Exposure to export control classification tools or trade compliance systems.

  • Interest in developing a long‑term career in global trade compliance.

Other

  • Languages: English required. Additional European languages are a plus.

  • Travel: Limited travel may be required (generally less than 10%).

  • Certifications: Export compliance or trade compliance certifications are preferred but not required.
