Backed by leading investors, including Bessemer Venture Partners, Amplo, Boeing, and RTX Ventures, Axion is poised to lead the quality revolution in manufacturing.

About The Role

We are seeking a Head of Medical Devices to lead Axion’s business in the MedTech sector. This individual will own the vertical’s commercial outcomes, driving new customer acquisition, deepening enterprise partnerships, and ensuring deployments that translate AI insights into measurable product quality and reliability improvements.

Axion has a deepening footprint in medical devices, with flagship customers such as Medtronic, Baxter, and Medline.

This leader will act as the business owner for Axion’s MedTech footprint, defining how we engage with medical device manufacturers and shaping the commercial and operational model that supports them. The ideal candidate brings a blend of strategic consulting experience, vertical expertise, and a track record of building and scaling complex B2B relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expand Axion’s MedTech footprint by designing and executing a high-impact go‑to‑market strategy.
  • Drive enterprise growth through new customer acquisition and deep relationship management.
  • Lead a pod of Engagement and Solutions professionals, fostering performance, ownership, and cross‑functional alignment.
  • Serve as commercial owner for the MedTech vertical, accountable for revenue, delivery quality, and customer success.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape roadmap priorities and deliver differentiated solutions.
  • Represent Axion externally as a thought leader and trusted partner to senior MedTech executives.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in go‑to‑market, solutions, or commercial leadership within MedTech, life sciences, or healthcare technology.
  • Former Partner at a top consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to lead teams and deliver business outcomes across complex enterprise environments.
  • Deep understanding of the medical device value chain— from design and manufacturing to quality and post‑market surveillance.
  • Strategic, analytical, and execution‑oriented; thrives in high‑growth, fast‑moving environments.
  • Motivated by impact, ownership, and building category‑defining products.

Who You Are

You’re a builder and operator who thrives in fast‑moving, high‑accountability environments. You take pride in getting things done—thoughtfully, efficiently, and without drama. You’re energized by ambiguity, skilled at bringing clarity, and comfortable flexing between strategy and execution.

You value feedback—giving it, receiving it, and acting on it—and you see collaboration as a competitive advantage, not a burden. You’re low‑ego but high‑agency: you care about winning as a team more than being right individually. You move quickly, communicate directly, and make decisions grounded in impact and data.

You don’t need constant direction—you create momentum. You take ownership for outcomes, and you expect the same from those around you.

How We Operate

We move fast, work smart, and hold ourselves to a high bar. Axion Ray isn’t a 9–5—it’s a place for people who take pride in their craft and are motivated by meaningful work. We respect time off and boundaries, but we’re also realistic: hard problems sometimes require weekend pushes or late‑night thinking sessions. We support that balance—intensity with respect for recharge.

We stay highly collaborative and connected throughout the day—much of our communication happens over Slack. We move quickly, share feedback often, and keep discussions open so decisions and context flow freely. If you value crisp communication, rapid iteration, and a steady hum of collaboration, you’ll fit right in.

We

  • Collaborate deeply. Feedback is part of how we build—all voices matter, and ideas win on merit.
  • Leave ego at the door. Titles don’t define value; contribution does.
  • Bias toward action. We iterate fast and favor progress over perfection.
  • Communicate with clarity. Direct, transparent, and always in service of the mission.
  • Act like owners. Everyone is accountable for outcomes, not just tasks.
  • Sustain excellence. We push hard but don’t glorify burnout—we’re in this for the long game.

What We Offer

  • Work with cutting‑edge AI technology making a tangible impact in manufacturing.
  • Collaborative, mission‑driven team and supportive leadership.
  • Generous time off.
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits.
  • Lunch stipend…. And much more.

Ready to drive the future of manufacturing with AI? Apply today to join our team and help us build the category‑defining platform for quality intelligence.

Axion Ray is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer committed to diversity in the workplace. Why Medical Technology Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Medical technology (medtech) is transforming healthcare in the UK — from wearable sensors to AI diagnostic tools, from surgical robots to telemedicine platforms. Advances in hardware, software, data and connectivity are enabling more personalized, efficient and accessible care. But with great power comes great responsibility. As medical devices and health technologies enter hospitals, clinics and consumers’ homes, professionals in this domain must master much more than engineering and algorithms. They must also understand law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. That is, medtech careers are now deeply multidisciplinary. In this article, we explore why medical technology careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five allied fields now intersect with medtech work, and what job-seekers and employers should do to succeed in this evolving ecosystem.

Medical Technology Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern MedTech Department

Medical technology (MedTech) spans everything from wearable health devices and surgical robots to diagnostic imaging, in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), digital therapeutics, AI-driven triage, and Class I–III medical devices. In the UK, the sector touches NHS care pathways, private providers, and global markets—with stringent expectations for safety, clinical evidence, cybersecurity, and data privacy. As ventures scale from prototype to regulated product, clear team structures become the difference between promising pilots and licensed, market-ready devices. Whether you’re hiring your first clinical specialist or applying for a role in QA/RA, this guide explains who does what in a modern MedTech department, how functions collaborate across the product lifecycle, UK-typical skill sets and salaries, common pitfalls, and best practices for building a resilient team.
