About the role

Make 2nds Count is a fast-growing UK-wide patient and family focused charity dedicated to giving hope to and improving the lives of women and men living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse with a background in breast care and/or clinical trials to join the Clinical Trials Service. The Clinical Trials Service is a free information and support service, here to help secondary breast cancer patients explore clinical trials as part of their treatment pathway.

Our Clinical Trials Nurses support secondary breast cancer patients throughout the UK, by answering questions about how clinical trials work and how to get involved, as well as conducting personalised trials database searches.

The role is external facing, working directly with secondary breast cancer patients. The goal is to deliver a specialist service supplying information and supporting patients to discuss clinical trials with their clinicians.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the clinical trials team to ensure that learnings are shared, best practice is applied and there is consistency of approach across the service.
  • Work directly with patients to conduct telephone appointments.
  • Communicate to patients how clinical trials work and how they may benefit them.
  • Produce thorough and accurate clinical trials search reports using a number of clinical trial databases.
  • Support the charity to review the effectiveness of the service, consider ways to continually improve it and ensure that patients' needs continue to be met as the service evolves.
  • Deliver presentations as part of a programme of patient education and activities focused on clinical trials - these might include webinars and face-to-face events.

General responsibilities

  • Be a positive ambassador for Make 2nds Count.
  • Be an enthusiastic and proactive member of the Make 2nds Count team, with a close involvement in team meetings, projects and forward planning.
  • Be flexible within the broad remit of the post.
  • Have the highest regard for the principle of confidentiality and at no time disclose confidential information inappropriately.

Benefits of the role

  • Patient focused: work closely with a small caseload of patients, making a direct and meaningful impact on their lives.
  • Flexible working:part-time hours are available (up to 3 days a week), flexible working patterns and fully remote working, supporting a positive work-life balance and personal commitments outside of work.
  • Collaborative team: join a supportive, passionate and growing charity where your voice and ideas will help shape and improve services.
  • Autonomy and variety: engage in a mix of direct patient support, database research, service development and educational activities.
  • Positive culture: be part of a values-led organisation dedicated to compassion, innovation and hope for patients and families across the UK.

Equal Opportunities

At Make 2nds Count we are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our work. We know that diverse teams bring different perspectives, experiences and ideas, which helps us deliver the best possible support for people living with secondary breast cancer. Why Medical Technology Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Medical technology (medtech) is transforming healthcare in the UK — from wearable sensors to AI diagnostic tools, from surgical robots to telemedicine platforms. Advances in hardware, software, data and connectivity are enabling more personalized, efficient and accessible care. But with great power comes great responsibility. As medical devices and health technologies enter hospitals, clinics and consumers’ homes, professionals in this domain must master much more than engineering and algorithms. They must also understand law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. That is, medtech careers are now deeply multidisciplinary. In this article, we explore why medical technology careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five allied fields now intersect with medtech work, and what job-seekers and employers should do to succeed in this evolving ecosystem.

Medical Technology Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern MedTech Department

Medical technology (MedTech) spans everything from wearable health devices and surgical robots to diagnostic imaging, in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), digital therapeutics, AI-driven triage, and Class I–III medical devices. In the UK, the sector touches NHS care pathways, private providers, and global markets—with stringent expectations for safety, clinical evidence, cybersecurity, and data privacy. As ventures scale from prototype to regulated product, clear team structures become the difference between promising pilots and licensed, market-ready devices. Whether you’re hiring your first clinical specialist or applying for a role in QA/RA, this guide explains who does what in a modern MedTech department, how functions collaborate across the product lifecycle, UK-typical skill sets and salaries, common pitfalls, and best practices for building a resilient team.
